‘Less likely’: Journalist plays down Leicester City player exit as Euro club eye late move

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri says that Anderlecht are looking less likely to make a move for Leicester City’s Jannik Vestergaard, after personal terms couldn’t be met.

Anderlecht can still make fresh additions because the Belgian transfer market is open until September 6th.

Tavolieri stated yesterday on Twitter that the Belgian giants had held negotiations with Leicester City midfielder Jannik Vestergaard but that personal conditions had not been agreed upon.

Personal terms appear to be the downfall of this deal, with Tavolieri now admitting that Vestergaard to Anderlecht is becoming less likely after the club was unable to satisfy the player’s terms.

Vestergaard joined Leicester from Southampton in 2021 for a rumoured cost of £15 million.

Vestergaard has had a difficult time with the club, making only 28 appearances in all, but has returned to the fold under new manager Enzo Maresca, who has featured the Dane in every Championship game so far this season.

The centre-back is out of contract at the end of this season.

What next?

The transfer window has now closed in the top five European leagues, with most other European countries following suit shortly.

Vestergaard’s future at the club appears to be in doubt until at least January, and the time between now and then might be eventful.

Vestergaard now gets the opportunity to show Leicester supporters what he is capable of. Maresca believes in him after a difficult two-year period for the athlete, who clearly has talent.

Vestergaard might solidify his place in the team before the next transfer window, which, considering his contractual circumstances, could put the Foxes in a bind.
