Leicester City missed out on summer move for international striker

Leicester City missed out on a deal to sign striker Georges Mikautadze in the last transfer window, reports Alan Nixon.

Leicester City were keen on landing the Georgia international in the last transfer window to bolster their attacking options.

Mikautadze, 22, eventually joined Ajax from freshly promoted Ligue 1 side Metz.

On his Patreon page, reporter Nixon claims that the Foxes wanted him but couldn’t get his signature because they needed to discharge someone first.

Leicester missed out

If Leicester had been able to entice Mikautadze to come to England, he would have been a valuable addition. He is of a reasonable age and has the ability to mature and develop in the future.

However, it was not to be, and the Championship club instead signed Tom Cannon from Everton on deadline day. The forward spent the second half of last season on loan in the second division with Preston North End, where he was a big hit, scoring eight goals in all competitions.

Mikautadze has spent the previous seven years at Metz, breaking into their first-team last year following a few of loan spells at RFC Seraing in Belgium to help his development. He scored 24 goals in all competitions for his previous team, propelling them to promotion from Ligue 2.

Other teams swooped in, but Ajax won the race for his signature as they try to capture the Dutch title. Metz replaced him on loan with Hull City’s Oscar Estupinan, and the Tigers started life without him with a 1-0 away win at Leicester this weekend, courtesy of Liam Delap’s winner.
