Leeds United transfer news as Norwich City striker Josh Sargent wanted

Leeds United are considering an approach to sign Norwich City striker Josh Sargent, according to journalist Simon Jones.

The Daily Mail journalist, writing in his exclusive Mail+ article (19 August) shares that the Whites are weighing up a move for the striker who Daniel Farke signed for Norwich back in 2021.

The German coach is desperately on the prowl for a new striker this summer and Sargent who scored 13 goals for the Canaries last season has emerged as the latest name being considered.

Striker desperately needed

Leeds are in need of fresh impetus in attack after seeing the likes of Rodrigo Moreno depart since their relegation from the Premier League, while club veteran Patrick Bamford and January signing Georginio Rutter continue to struggle with injury issues.

Farke is suffering with a rather depleted squad right now, having been forced to field just eight substitutions against Birmingham City on Saturday 12 August due to several injuries, while the likes of Wilfried Gnonto [The Athletic, 12 August] and Luis Sinisterra [Phil Hay, 12 August] both choosing to sit out of recent matches due to their desire to seek a transfer elsewhere.

After the latest Elland Road departure of Jack Harrison, the Whites’ desperate need for attacking reinforcements have been made abundantly clear in the past few games, with a reliable goalscorer need to take the club to the next level.

Sargent knows Farke well having been signed by the German coach in 2021 and last season proved that he possesses the necessary abilities to bolster the Whites’ attacking ranks this season.

The American forward hit 13 goals and registered two assists for Norwich last season and could certainly match those heights at Elland Road, under a manager who knows what he offers in attack.

Remains to be seen how much the Canaries will demand for Sargent’s services but what is very clear is that Leeds United simply cannot waste any time in identifying the striker they need to fulfil their promotion ambitions this season.
