Shelvey and Newcastle: Perfect fit/certain failure - Football365TeamTalk claim Leeds United are considering a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey with the Premier League side willing to sell the England international – after only just joining in January.

Shelvey, 31, signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Forest after more than 200 matches for Newcastle – in which he gained promotion from the Championship, as a title winner under manager Rafa Benitez.

Shelvey only played eight times between signing and the end of last season. He has not been involved in either of their two Premier League games so far, a 2-1 loss to Arsenal and a win over Sheffield United.

The report claims that after a bust-up with manager Steve Cooper, Forest are willing to listen to offers for the ex-Liverpool, and Newcastle man. Leeds are considering a move for the £75k-a-week maestro.

Leeds considering Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey

Well, he certainly has the know how and experience. But it is hardly a signing that is going to really excite supporters. A player with a superb range of passing – but one you would say is now past his best.

Tyler Adams has now left and it leaves us with Ethan Ampadu, Archie Gray, Darko Gyabi, Lew Bate and Jamie Shackleton. Shackleton and Bate need a loan. Gyabi is yet to get going under boss Daniel Farke.

Shelvey is a player that will dictate games. But he has failed to regularly play since Eddie Howe first became boss – and the Toon signed Bruno Guimaraes. Leeds do need midfielders before the deadline.

Perhaps, as things begin to hot up, Shelvey is about the best we can in terms of getting deals over the line. The presence of Karl Darlow at Elland Road, and Nick Hammond, will help Leeds in a possible move.
