Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics. She announced that she would be unable to participate due to an injury.

“It’s a long journey, but I am determined to start anew, focus on a complete recovery, and continue my sprinting career. It pains me to miss this Olympics, but ultimately, this is sports, and my health is of utmost importance,” stated Thompson-Herah.

In early June, the 31-year-old Jamaican athlete sustained an Achilles tendon injury.

Elaine Thompson-Herah is the reigning Olympic champion in three events: 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay. She also won gold in the 100m and 200m at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Later this month, Jamaica will hold its national trials to determine the three athletes who will represent the country in the sprinting events.
