Katy Perry bid a bittersweet farewell to American Idol at the end of Season 22 in May. Now, the show is actively searching for her replacement as she embarks on a new chapter that includes a world tour and the release of her sixth album. Who will replace Katy Perry on American Idol? Here’s what to know so far.

On February 12, Perry announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she was exiting American Idol after Season 22. The “Firework” artist became a judge — alongside singers Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie — when ABC revived the series in 2018 following FOX’s cancellation two years prior.

At the time, Perry explained that she was leaving American Idol to focus on her pop career and release new music. “I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music,” she told Kimmel. “It’s going to be a very, very exciting year for all pop star girlies. Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan.”

In the emotional Season 22 finale, which marked her last episode on the singing competition, a collection of Perry’s biggest hits were performed, including “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Gurls.” The singer also sang a duet of “What Makes a Woman” with contestant Jack Blocker.

The singer is set to release her seventh studio LP and launch her first world tour in six years in 2024. Her anticipated new single, “Woman’s World,” will drop on July 11. Perry’s also slated to perform at the Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil, which would conflict with Idol’s production schedule, according to CNN. The pop star hasn’t ruled out returning to the long-running singing show in the future. “Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day,” she said.
