Florida football flip target, FSU commit details recent visit with Gators
The Florida football program has been focused on hosting top prospects on official visits this month but also managed to find some time to welcome a coveted commit to a major rival for an unofficial stop in the Swamp.
Three-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin was in Gainesville last Thursday to get another taste of what the Gators have to offer despite his verbal commitment to the Florida State Seminoles.
The 6-foot, 196-pound in-state passer is still considering his options and the Orange and Blue appear to be a favorite to make the flip — if he somehow decides to decommit to FSU.
“Just got to watch the camaraderie between the team,” Jones told 247Sports Tom Loy at the Elite 11 Finals. “OTA’s, player ran workouts. See how they go through things in the summer.”
“Trying to get me on campus for an official, haven’t set up an official. Haven’t talked about an official, but the message is to come in and compete. I know they want to win some games this year just because they need to win game. The message is to come in and complete.
“Best-case scenario, develop behind DJ Lagway, I come in and compete, play the best person. They’re an SEC program, that’s what they’re going to do, they’re going to put the best guy on the field. Coach (Billy) Napier just taking about their overall program. It was a good talk.”
“I feel like if I was going to take an official in the fall, then I would probably know by now, but I haven’t really set anything up or really talked about it yet. I don’t know, just haven’t set it yet.”
