Brisbane announce double signing to kickstart 2024

The Lions have locked away two big names.

Brisbane have announced a stellar double signing for their Men’s and Women’s programs, with defender Keidean Coleman and midfielder Ally Anderson each inking new deals.

Coleman has signed on for a further three seasons to now be tied to the grand finalists until the end of the 2027 season, while Anderson’s contract will see the dual premiership Lion locked away for the 2026 campaign.

Both deals come in the shape of three-year extensions, with Coleman initially set to enter the 2024 season without a deal beyond this year.

The dashing Brisbane defender enjoyed a career-best campaign in helping lead the Lions to the season decider in 2023, where he would poll five Norm Smith Medal votes to finish second in the running.

The Lions Academy graduate has played 64 games across four seasons under Chris Fagan, honing himself a role across half-back for the Queensland club.

The Morningside product expressed his gratitude in the club and his excitement for the future as a Lion.

“I am blessed and grateful that I was able to extend my time with the Brisbane Lions and the culture here at the Club is a big reason why I re-committed,” Coleman said in a club statement.

“I really love that whether it’s the AFL, AFLW or VFL, everyone comes in everyday to work hard individually and as a team and we are all looking at ways to get better and get that ultimate success as a Club.

“It’s an exciting time for the Brisbane Lions and I would like to be a part of this group that can win premierships, that’s an achievement I would love to accomplish.”

Anderson’s deal will see the Season Seven AFLW Best and Fairest winner remain in the sunshine state following another premiership-winning campaign with the Lions.

Anderson played all 13 games last year in helping steer Brisbane to the flag, culminating with a win over North Melbourne in December.

The 29-year-old’s tally of 79 matches has her placed equal first on the AFLW all-time games record leaderboard with Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff, with Anderson’s new deal set to see her remain a chance of becoming the first Women’s player to feature in 100 games at the top level.

“I’m so excited to be signing on for another three years, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than at this Club,” Anderson said.

“I love this team and everything we have built here and I’m excited for what is to come.

“We’ve had a great 2023 for both our AFLW and AFL teams and I can’t wait to see where the next three years will take us as a group and as a Club.”

Brisbane’s Men’s side will see their 2024 campaign get underway in Opening Round against Carlton at the Gabba on Friday, March 8, while details for the coming AFLW season are yet to be released.
