Leeds United miss out on Helder Costa windfall as Saudi Arabian transfer window shuts

Leeds United may have worked nonstop on Thursday (7 September) evening to sell Helder Costa to Saudi teams.

On September 8, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs informed Give Me Sport that two Saudi clubs had made bids for the 29-year-old.

Costa spent last season on loan at Al Ittihad, but they did not appear to be interested in signing him before the transfer deadline of 10 p.m. on Thursday.

“There hasn’t been a lot of interest in Costa,” Jacobs added. There had been some inquiries from Saudi Arabia, as well as from Turkey. We will have to wait and see what happens. There is a chance he will depart for good. On the Saudi side, he received an approach approximately three weeks ago from Al-Taawoun, and Al-Shabab had examined a contract under their old board.”

The Angola international has no future at Elland Road, and the sooner he leaves, the better for the club.

Saudi clubs are among the wealthiest in the world, and they might easily have paid a multi-million dollar sum to obtain the 29-year-old’s services.

The window in Turkey remains open, and it looks that this is the Whites’ last chance to profit from his sale.

Daniel Farke will be furious that they did not cash in on Costa since this is money that might have been utilised to bring in a new signing in January when teams are desperate for the X Factor move.

In other Leeds United news, the club has made several bids for a multi-million pound international winger ahead of the transfer deadline.
