Tottenham: Alfie Devine signs new Spurs contract - BBC SportSPURS TEENAGER SPOTTED IN ENGLAND FIRST-TEAM TRAINING TODAY

Alfie Devine of Tottenham Hotspur has been called up to the England first-team squad ahead of games against Ukraine and Scotland.

Alfie Devine trained with the England senior team today after being promoted from the England Under-20s.

The Times’ Henry Winter shared a video from St George’s Park on Twitter, saying that Devine was ‘drafted in’ to training today.

We frequently see Under-21 and even younger youngsters offered opportunities to practice with England when available.

Today is Devine’s turn, with Gareth Southgate recognizing the talent and potential of the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur have great hopes for Alfie Devine. Devine has been in the England picture for some time now, thanks to his progression through the age groups.

The 19-year-old played for the Under-16s and has recently been a regular for the Under-19s.

Devine represented England at the Under-20 World Cup earlier this year, and he has now been selected for England senior training.

The video also features James Maddison and Harry Kane, with Devine given an opportunity to shine.

Tottenham signed Devine from Wigan Athletic back in 2020 and he became the club’s youngest-ever player in January 2021, scoring against non-league Marine.

The attacking midfielder – formerly of the Liverpool youth ranks – is thought to be a huge talent for the future and even Jose Mourinho was a fan.

The Athletic reported in 2021 that Mourinho actually told Devine that he reminded him of Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

That’s a lofty comparison but with Southgate and England taking notice too, Devine could well become a Premier League star down the line.

Devine is already making an impression on loan at Port Vale.
Tottenham has now loaned Devine to League One side Port Vale in order for him to gain first-team experience.

Devine made his debut at the end of August before making a huge impact for Vale this weekend.

Devine came on as a second-half substitute and set up Port Vale’s first goal against Oxford United with a brilliant cross from a wide free kick

The game was tied at 1-1 going into injury time, and when Port Vale won a penalty kick, Devine stepped up to score the game-winning goal.

That’s a big step for Devine, and if he wasn’t already on a high, he’s now rubbing elbows with England’s top players.
