Danilo breaks Rangers silence on ‘small surgery’ for head knock

Rangers striker Danilo has offered a positive update after undergoing a “small surgery” for his head injury.

After colliding with St Johnstone captain Liam Gordon, the Brazilian forward shattered his cheekbone.

Danilo hammered home the opening goal for his team only seconds before medics raced onto the field to assess his health.

Despite claiming that he wanted to play on, the attacker was pulled off after broadcast cameras picked up swelling on his face.

Danilo was replaced by Abdallah Sima after walking off the field with Rangers medical staff. Gordon was also substituted following a hard clash with his replacement, Sam McClelland.

Danilo has now provided an update to supporters on his situation, confirming that he has had surgery on the injury and is striving for a rapid return to duty.

He posted on Instagram, “Never give in, never back down!”

“I had a minor surgery for a head injury, but I’m fine and hoping to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

“It was a great finish from Danny [Danilo] and obviously, with the injury to the two players, the game stopped for a long time,” Michael Beale stated after the game.

“Danilo has broken his cheekbone, so we’ll see how long he’s out.” He’s been admitted to the hospital and will hopefully be operated on this evening.

“I just asked the doctor, and he gave me the news, which was not good news to hear, but you could tell right away from the swelling that it was a bad one.”
