Tommy Doyle makes honest Wolves admission after Man City transfer

Wolverhampton Wanderers news from BirminghamLive as Manchester City loanee Tommy Doyle looks to get more minutes under his belt.

When the Premier League resumes after the break for the international break, Tommy Doyle hopes to see more action for Wolves.

Doyle left Manchester City for Wolves in the summer on a season-long deal, but up until this point, he has had to wait. The teenage midfielder has so far made three appearances for Gary O’Neil’s team, including one start in the Carabao Cup loss at Ipswich Town and two league substitute outings against Liverpool and Luton Town.

The 22-year-old, who played for the England Under-21 team that just won the European Championship, has had a full week of training at Compton Park while many others have been away competing for their nations. Additionally, Doyle has the chance to push his claim for a starting position because Mario Lemina is suspended for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth.

His statement on the club’s official website that he is fine with competing for a spot in the team is: “It’s fine because I knew that would be the case. Since I hadn’t really participated in a preseason and had been nursing a little injury since the Euros, I knew I would need to pick up the tempo and perform at the level I am now.

“But hopefully soon I will be able to get some more minutes. I’m just trying to get some minutes on the pitch. I’ll keep working hard, keep proving myself to the manager, keep working hard every day, and then we’ll see where that takes me.”

Despite limited time on the pitch, Doyle is enjoying life at Wolves so far. “It’s been good, I’ve really enjoyed it,” he said. “Everyone’s helped me settle in well and the lads and the staff are really good.”

Doyle has been attempting to take advantage of the international break. It’s different because there are less people, he continued, but you should still challenge yourself, work hard, and make the most of it.

“Perhaps it does give me the opportunity to get to know individuals better, but to be honest, I don’t mind when it’s busy and definitely prefer when there are more people in.

But so far, it’s been fun, so I’ll just keep working with the coaches and players while I’m adjusting, and hopefully I can transfer it to the field.
