‘As expected’: National media think Forest loanee is ‘starting to master’ his position

Nottingham Forest allowed Remo Freuler to join Bologna during the summer transfer window. He found regular first-team football hard to come by during the back end of 2022/23 and was deemed surplus.

Freuler signed for Forest from Atalanta in the summer of 2022. He joined for £7.5 million and sadly he failed to scale the heights that he had reached in Serie A.

In fairness, Freuler was simply a victim of Steve Cooper playing a style of football that didn’t play to his strengths. In a possession-based team, it’s impossible not to imagine Freuler performing better.

Freuler earns glowing praise since Forest exit

The 31-year-old will be thankful to play regular first-team football again. He didn’t play a single minute of action during the final six games of the season for Forest.

Now, he’s starting to get settled at Bologna. Calciomercato have praised him recently following one of his performances, saying: “Starting to master the midfield as expected from someone like him. Good try.”

Freuler is a very seasoned campaigner and he knows Serie A very well. In recent times, his performances for Switzerland have also been very good and he has 59 caps for his country.

Forest will hope to offload midfielder permanently

Freuler is surely on borrowed time as a Forest player. Although he’s only a season-long loan, it looks very unlikely that he will earn a reprieve at Forest any time soon.

Cooper had a good look at Freuler and he just didn’t really fit into the system that the Forest head coach deployed. Furthermore, there are now people ahead of him in the squad on Trentside.

The player was popular in the dressing room. He captained the team on several occasions but ultimately, it was the right choice for the Reds to get rid of him this summer.
