Everton must join trio of Premier League clubs in race to sign £40k-a-week England man – opinion

Everton should seriously consider joining the race to sign Emile Smith Rowe.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Brighton all hold an interest in securing the services of Emile Smith Rowe.

Everton would be wise to enter the race for the 23-year-old midfielder’s signature.

Despite being a Hale End academy graduate, Smith Rowe may well be keen to leave Arsenal soon. The three-cap England international has tumbled down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium in recent times.

Whilst Mikel Arteta is keen to keep Smith Rowe at the north London club, at this stage in his career, Smith Rowe needs to be playing regular football.

This situation could potentially be taken advantage of by Everton. If Arsenal are reluctant to let Smith Rowe go on a permanent basis, the Toffees would be wise to try to sign the £40,000-a-week ace on loan in the upcoming January transfer window.

Everton can provide a platform for Smith Rowe

If the Gunners, and the player, were open to such a proposal, it would serve to benefit all involved. Smith Rowe would get the game time he needs to get back to his best, Arsenal would retain their long-term grip on the player, and Everton would benefit from his quality in the meantime.

Sean Dyche’s side lacks cutting edge and goal threat. Smith Rowe would add plenty of that. He has already shown that he can shine in the Premier League. In the 2021/22 season, he bagged ten top flight goals.

Since then, though, injuries have derailed Smith Rowe’s career. This opened the door for the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard to usurp him Arteta’s plans. The Spanish coach can’t now give Smith Rowe the regular football he needs to rediscover his best form.

If Smith Rowe had the chance to shine at Everton, he could prove to be a true star on Merseyside.
