Just In:UNC Football head coach Mark Brown made unexpected Announcement which will leave you speechless……..
It’s argued that UNC’s head coach Mack Brown has a shaken football program after their Week 4 loss to a Sun Belt Conference foe. The defense was out of sorts and it felt like the Dukes were getting anything they wanted on the offensive end.
ESPN analysts Rece Davis and Pete Thamel believe the loss has done more damage than what it seems to be.
“But it’s also not like James Madison didn’t move the football, either. That’s a bad loss for Carolina to the point that it’s a program shaking loss. And you start to wonder, okay, what’s Mack [Brown] going to do to fix it. Or is Mack at this point in his career. Legend. Hall of Famer. National Champion. But is he the one to fix it?” Davis asked on the College Gameday podcast.
Bob Chesney is in his first year as JMU’s head coach, previously found at Holy Cross leading the charge a season ago. Davis hammered the fact in explaining how bad this was for Brown and Co.
“I know it’s one loss. One game. Things happen. 70? To James Madison. With a new coach? Not like this is Cignetti having built, built, built. Coming off all these FCS Championships. Better, better, better. Undefeated. Trying to get into a New Year’s Six Bowl. It’s not that. It’s a lot of guys gone. It’s a new coach. And they come into your place and put 70 on you? That’s a tough loss,” Davis explained.
Nobody should get too ahead of themselves. It’s only one game after all. It would be unfair to place the entire state of a program in question after a bad performance. Each team has its flow of ups and downs.
However, the concerns are understandable.
Brown is in his second stint at UNC and many believe that his days as a head coach are numbered. Performances like Week 4 do not help either.
Thamel tacked on and shared his insight about Carolina’s football program — elaborating on Chesney and his coaching abilities.
“And so, give Bob Chesney a lot of credit. But, Bob Chesney has been around for a long time. He’s a Northeast guy up here. So, I’ve run across him a bunch. He started his career at Salve Regina in Newport. And then went to Assumption, where Brian Kelly played. And then he went to Holy Cross. So, that’s a guy that’s learned how to win football games. And he’s actually a special teams guru. That’s his background. So, the blocked punt was not surprising. Their playcaller is like 32-years old. Dean Kennedy. Had to feel pretty good to roll into Chapel Hill and turn the scoreboard into three sevens the other night for James Madison. Good for them, man.” Thamel said.
UNC struggling to find identity in the post-Sam Howell/Drake Maye era
The backlash on UNC’s football team should not be a surprise as they are one of the premier names in college athletics. Not to mention, Brown is a CFP champion in his own right; winning in 2006 against USC in the Rose Bowl during his tenure at Texas.
The post-Sam Howell/Drake Maye era has its issues but that does not mean the Tar Heels are incapable of success.
The quarterback situation seems to be resolved with fifth-year senior Jacolby Criswell slinging the ball but it takes more than just scoring touchdowns to win ball games.
Brown’s Tar Heels need to learn that quickly before this era unravels further.
