Birmingham City could be without 11 players for Shrewsbury Town cup clash…
Birmingham City are expected to be without 11 senior players for their Bristol Street Motors Trophy clash with Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday.
Krystian Bielik’s name was added to Blues’ injury list at the weekend when he was substituted at half-time of the 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic. The Blues captain sustained an ankle injury at The Valley as a result of a challenge shortly before the break.
“Krys got a knock on his ankle,” Chris Davies said afterwards. “I’m not sure where he’ll go with that, it didn’t look great at half-time.”
Bielik joins Lee Buchanan, Ethan Laird, Luke Harris and Alfie Chang on the sidelines and Davies also has to contend with another six absences due to international call-ups.
Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell (Northern Ireland), Paik Seung-ho (South Korea), Alfons Sampsted (Iceland), Willum Willumsson (Iceland), Lyndon Dykes (Scotland) and Jay Stansfield (England U21s) are also unavailable for Shrewsbury.
Dion Sanderson is available after playing 45 minutes for the under-21s last week. Davies commented: “He’s the closest to a return. He’s been training and has got some minutes under his belt, day by day he’s getting stronger.”
Blues’ League One match against Cambridge United has been postponed due to the aforementioned call-ups. Here is the latest on the injury front…
