Injury problems mount up for Birmingham City ahead of Coventry City clash

“Both roads were closed as we established the circumstances of the collision and cleared debris from the scene.

Coventry City look set to face a severely depleted Birmingham City side this weekend. Blues have already used 27 players this term and picked up further injuries in Wednesday night’s 3-2 win at West Brom.

Harlee Dean, George Friend and Nico Gordon were all on the sidelines for the short trip to the Hawthorns and they look set to be joined by centre-back Marc Roberts and Krystian Bielik.

Roberts was replaced midway through the second half at West Brom after appearing to sustain an injury contesting for the ball. Initial fears were that it was a recurrence of the hamstring injury which marred last season. Head coach John Eustace suggested there were other factors at play, though.

Asked if it was a hamstring injury, Eustace said: “Possibly, we will have to look at that tomorrow, obviously he cramped up quite badly during the game so we will assess that. We have got one more game before the international break, we will have to see where he is on that.”

Blues also lost Krystian Bielik just before the break after an aerial clash with team-mate Auston Trusty, while Jordan Graham sat the game out after straining his calf against Preston.

Eustace suggested Graham may have an outside chance of facing the Sky Blues, however.

“Jordan had a strain to his calf against Preston so we will have to assess that, he hasn’t joined back in with the group yet. He is working very hard with the medical team so we will have to see if he will be available on Saturday.”
