West Ham United want Tammy Abraham already as 2024 transfer news drops

West Ham United have shown interest in signing Tammy Abraham with the forward keen to return to the Premier League in 2024, according to Caught Offside

The Irons were joined by Aston Villa in registering an interest in the former Chelsea striker, who might be transferred by the Italian giants to bankroll a permanent deal for Romelu Lukaku next summer, according to an online source on Wednesday (6 September).

So far, no actual conversations or negotiations have taken place over a potential future transfer, but the Hammers are said to hold high regard for the 25-year-old striker and will need to add to their forward options when the transfer market reopens.

Throughout the summer transfer window, David Moyes was anxious to add a striker to his squad, but West Ham were unable to complete a deal, despite making an extraordinarily late approach for Feyenoord forward Santiago Giminez [Toby Cudworth, 1 September].

Big move

Abraham’s stint in Roma has been mostly successful, with him winning the Europa Conference League in his first season and reaching the Europa League final in his last, however his goal-scoring record did drop slightly during his second season.

The Premier League has always been a mixed bag for the attacker, who has always carried a steady threat while never truly being able to hold down the first-choice forward seat at Stamford Bridge. However, he managed to score 21 goals in 58 Premier League games during his stint with the Blues.

He has become a lot more complete striker under Jose Mourinho in Rome and would be a wonderful addition to the ranks at the London Stadium, having a genuine eye for goal while also being able to hold the ball up when leading the line on his own.

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers’ curiosity turns into a legitimate bid, or if Roma sells Abraham next summer. So much of this contract hinges on whether or not the 25-year-old can recover from the catastrophic injury he sustained last year, or even if Lukaku is successful in Rome.

If he leaves Serie A, the Irons will have a chance to sign the England international next summer.
