West Indies clinched a draw in their Test series against Australia, 1-1, thanks to a spectacular comeback led by Shamar Joseph in Adelaide. This victory marks their first win in Australia since 1997, despite Australia retaining the Frank Worrell trophy. However, it’s the visiting team that returns home with the most jubilation.

On the fourth day, Australia needed 156 runs for victory with West Indies requiring eight wickets for an upset. Shamar Joseph emerged as the star, claiming seven wickets in the second innings, including the crucial dismissal of Josh Hazlewood, securing an eight-run victory for West Indies and triggering exuberant celebrations.

Joseph, who was awarded both Man of the Match and Man of the Series, expressed his joy: “Tears would have come to my eyes but I already cried when I got my five-wicket haul… Today’s a big day for us.”

Forced to retire hurt from a Mitchell Starc delivery, Joseph returned on day four to claim six wickets in a session and 7-68 overall, guiding West Indies to their first Test win in Australia in 27 years. Australia’s Steve Smith’s unbeaten 91 wasn’t enough to save them as Joseph wrapped up the innings, sealing the win amidst scenes of celebration at the Gabba.

Despite Australia’s disappointment, Pat Cummins acknowledged the thrilling series, praising Shamar Joseph’s outstanding performance: “That was a fantastic Test match and a fantastic series… Shamar, the way he bowled today was right up there and unfortunately we weren’t good enough.”
