‘I am shocked,’ says a journalist, when asked why a £25 million Tottenham Hotspur star did not force his way out this summer.

The transfer window is already ended, and while Tottenham did a lot of business this summer, they did not solve all of their difficulties.

Tottenham needed to cut the fat on their squad this summer, and a handful of marginal players who Spurs intended to get rid of are still at the club.

Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris did not go, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remained at the club, much to Tom Barclay’s astonishment.

On The Tottenham Way Podcast, Barclay expressed surprise that Hojbjerg did not force a move away from Spurs this summer, suggesting that the £25 million player is content to remain on the bench for the majority of the season.

Why didn’t Hojbjerg move?

Barclay shared his view on the Dane.

“I’m taken aback. I understand they’re useful players in the squad, especially Hojbjerg, whose professionalism is widely recognized throughout the Spurs squad and who is better than many give him credit for. But, yeah, I’m surprised they didn’t force a move because they didn’t want to remain on the bench,” Barclay explained.

Surprising

Barclay is shocked that Hojbjerg did not force a move, and we are as well.

The midfielder plainly does not have a place in this Spurs team right now, and with no Carabao Cup or European games for the rest of the season, he is unlikely to make the team through rotation.

It won’t be long before Hojbjerg gets tired of sitting on the bench, and a January move could be in the cards for the midfielder.
