‘Raved about him’: Hobbs says Marcelo Bielsa is actually a huge fan of Wolves’ £8.5 million signing

Wolves have officially confirmed the signing of centre-back Santiago Bueno from Girona.

The 24-year-old joins Wolves, subject to international clearance and work permit.

Bueno arrives at Molineux after Enso Gonzalez was announced earlier today. Both players did their medicals yesterday.

Bueno has penned a five-year deal at Molineux, and arrives on the back of three consistent seasons in Spain.

Wolves have given the lowdown on Bueno on their official website – and have featured some very interesting quotes from sporting director Matt Hobbs, who says he spoke to Marcelo Bielsa about the defender…

Hobbs shares exciting verdict from Marcelo Bielsa on Santiago Bueno

Quite possibly, Wolves have done some really shrewd business here with the £8.5 million signing of Bueno

Hobbs has been speaking about the club’s latest recruit.

And he says that he actually spoke to former Leeds United boss, and current Uruguay national team manager, Bielsa about Bueno’s qualities.

He said (Wolves official): “I spoke to people around [Marcelo] Bielsa who raved about him. He’s been called up by the national team and is expected to be a big part of them moving forward. When Santiago went on holiday, he was asked to go to the national training camp and went through his Girona games intensely.

“He was full of absolute praise for him and couldn’t speak highly enough of Santiago. When his national team head coach is that big on him, on his strengths and developing him, it’s exciting.”

Interestingly, Hobbs adds that Bueno ‘could have gone to bigger clubs, but he wanted to go and play and showed a lot of humility’.

A very encouraging verdict on new signing Santiago Bueno

It sounds as though Wolves have picked up a potential bargain in Bueno.

Between the view of Bielsa, and Hobbs suggesting bigger clubs than Wolves might have signed him, it’s a positive transfer by the club.

Fans will be relieved that Gary O’Neil finally has a fourth centre-back option.

Hopefully, Bueno – described as ‘aggressive’ by Hobbs- can now settle in fairly quickly.

It remains to be seen how will follow Bueno and Gonzalez to Molineux.

Tommy Doyle will come in on loan, and Harrison Reed is also a possibility.
