Wayne Bennett linked to Parramatta Eels amid uncertainty over master coach’s future

Wayne Bennett is open for business in 2025 once Kristian Woolf takes over as his successor at the Dolphins, so could that see him move to a rival NRL team?

A report from Wide World of Sports suggests it is a possibility, claiming the Parramatta Eels are considering a move for Bennett ahead of the 2025 season.

Crucially, the report clarified that it would be in a coaching director role similar to that Phil Gould has at the Bulldogs, meaning such a move would not immediately put Brad Arthur’s job as head coach in jeopardy.

Instead, the Eels could look to bring Bennett into the fold to benefit from his experience and proven premiership-winning success as they look to land their first title since 1986.

It is not the only potential job Bennett has been linked to this summer, with the master coach also reportedly viewed as the frontrunner to take over Michael Maguire as New Zealand coach.

Bennett confirmed his interest in the job last month, telling News Corp that he would welcome the challenge to take on Mal Meninga and the Kangaroos.

“I’ve expressed interest in the (New Zealand) job, yes,” Bennett said at the time.

“I’ve spoken to the NZRL and I’m waiting for them to come back to me.

“This doesn’t mean I’ve got the job, there will be other applicants, but the point is I have expressed interest, the NZRL know that and they have a process going on, so I’m sure they will get back to me at some stage.

“I am waiting to see where it goes. I have been in contact with a guy to make it known I’m keen on the Kiwi job and let’s see what happens.

“I love a challenge.”
