The Green Bay Packers announced on Thursday that they have reached a four-year agreement with second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper. With Cooper’s signing, only first-round pick Jordan Morgan and second-round pick Javon Bullard remain unsigned from the 2024 draft class.

Cooper, an All-American linebacker from Texas A&M, was selected as the 45th overall pick by the Packers in the 2024 NFL draft. He is expected to vie for a starting position alongside Quay Walker at linebacker in Jeff Hafley’s new 4-3 base defense.

According to Over the Cap, Cooper’s four-year deal is valued at nearly $8.6 million, including a signing bonus of almost $3.1 million. His 2023 cap number is projected to be slightly over $1.56 million.

What a contrast a year can make.

In May of last year, the Green Bay Packers faced uncertainty with an offense led by a first-year starting quarterback. Compounded by a roster of mostly rookie or second-year wide receivers and tight ends, practices often leaned towards defensive dominance. However, over time, Jordan Love and his supporting cast began to adapt.

By season’s end, rookie wide receivers Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks emerged as viable weapons, while rookie tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft grew into their roles within the offense. The Packers concluded the season with the 11th-ranked offense, securing a playoff berth and even upsetting the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Fast forward to today, and practicing with a more seasoned and battle-tested group presents a wholly different scenario for Love.

“It’s like night and day,” Love remarked. “Last year, we had a lot of young receivers learning the playbook, lacking timing and chemistry. But now, it’s a different story. Everyone knows their role, and there’s a strong chemistry from the previous year. It’s a significant difference.”

During Tuesday’s OTA practice, Love showcased his progress, starting the 7-on-7 period with six consecutive completions before connecting with Samori Toure for a 60-yard touchdown.

While OTA practices are conducted without pads to prevent injuries and focus on playbook familiarity, there’s a noticeable shift in energy within the Green Bay team. Love has emerged as a leader both on and off the field, surrounded by teammates who matured significantly last season and are primed to start this year with confidence and cohesion.
