After spending the last few years in the ACC, the former off-field staffer is moving to the SEC.

begins to close in. Florida State has lost multiple members of its off-field staff to other jobs over the past few years, including Director of Scouting, John Garrett, to Duke at the beginning of 2024.

Earlier this week, former FSU off-field staff member Kenyatta Watson accepted a position at Auburn. Watson will be joining head coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers as Director Of Recruiting Research and Strategy. The move comes after he spent the last two years at Georgia Tech as Director of Scouting and Pro Liaison.

The timing is interesting as Watson’s tenure with the Yellow Jackets concludes just months after his son, Kenyatta Watson II, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Watson II suited up for Georgia Tech over the last three years as a reserve in the defensive backfield and on special teams. He landed at Georgia State last month.

Watson began his college coaching career at Florida State in 2021. He served as the Seminoles’ Director of Player Relations and Pro Liaison before departing for Georgia Tech after nine months on the job. His relationships in the Peach State were crucial on the recruiting trail.

Prior to working in Tallahassee, Watson coached youth and high school football for over a decade. He was the Director of Football Operations and Recruiting at Grayson High School during a five-year stretch where the program had nearly 120 players earn college scholarships.

Watson also worked as the coordinator for the Under Armour Middle School All-American Game and the UA Next Middle School Camp Series, as well as director of the Adidas Middle School Showcase, the Rivals NextGen Showcase, MVP Middle School Showcase, and Elite Talent Middle School Football Showcase.

He played his college ball at Boston College where Watson developed into one of the top returners in Big East history.

Freeze has made a handful of coaching changes this offseason. Auburn brought in new hires such as offensive coordinator Derrick Nix, co-defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, and co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.
