Alan Shearer delivers Europe verdict on Rangers, Liverpool, West Ham and Brighton

Alan Shearer gives his assessment on Rangers, Liverpool, West Ham, and Brighton in Europe.
When asked about it after matchday one, Alan Shearer believes Liverpool will go the furthest in Europe, ahead of Rangers, Brighton, and West Ham.

Gary Lineker spoke with the illustrious ex-England striker, who picked the 2019 Champions League winners.

After finishing outside the top four in the Premier League last season, the Reds are back in the Europa League this season.

Lineker was speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, and with a number of English clubs taking part, he mentioned Rangers. “Here’s a question for you, who’s going to go the furthest in the Europa League, Liverpool, Brighton, West Ham, or even Rangers?” he questioned Alan Shearer.

“You’d have to fancy Liverpool, wouldn’t you?” said Shearer.

“They didn’t play particularly well; they can’t keep doing that because it will come back to bite them (having to come from behind).” With the opponents they’ve faced, aside from Newcastle, I believe they’ve been given a chance to get back into the game.

“They won’t be able to do that against stronger opposition.” So it is one area they need to work on, but I believe they will go far in the competition because they have to with that group.”

That’s all right.

Liverpool hammered Rangers in the Champions League last season, and there’s no debating who the better club is on paper.

The Reds also play in the Premier League, which is an entirely different level of competition than the SPFL.

The broadcasting revenues in Scotland are a pittance compared to what they are in the Premier League.

In terms of signing players, Gers’ total transfer budget may be equal to what Liverpool spends on bringing in a single new player through the door.

However, the draw plays a big element in the knockout rounds, and Rangers might go further than Liverpool if they receive a good run.

Michael Beale and company will take it one game at a time for the time being.

In other Rangers news, a hitherto unseen player was sighted in Gers training on Monday as a result of a recent international development.
