Lee Hendrie: Leeds United star Willy Gnonto sent for ‘cold shower’ in first half after incident v Hull City

According to Sky Sports News analyst Lee Hendrie, Willy Gnonto took a “cold shower” early in the match between Leeds United and Hull City.

The winger was hurt after only 21 minutes of the Championship match on Wednesday (20 September) at the MKM Stadium.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke replaced the young Italian with fellow winger Cryscencio Summerville, with Gnonto limping off the pitch.

“Gnonto has had to go off,” Hendrie remarked on Sky Sports News at 8:12 p.m. on September 20. “He got into a bit of a scrap in the middle of the field, which obviously caused a problem.”

“He tried to run it off, but now he’s having a cold shower in the locker room.” Summerville has come on for him, and you can tell they have depth on the bench.”

Leeds entered the game against Hull on a four-match unbeaten run in the Championship, which included victories over Ipswich Town and Millwall, as well as draws against West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday.

And boss Farke will definitely want to continue that run against the Tigers, preferably with a win, but given how their opponents have begun the season, a draw would not be the worst outcome.

However, their mission has been made much more difficult by the devastating loss to Gnonto, who is truly one of the club’s vital players. It’s unclear how long he’ll be out, but this just adds to Farke’s injury woes at Elland Road.

Fortunately, the West Yorkshire club has some depth, with Summerville serving as a solid immediate replacement for the injured Gnonto.

Even after the Italian’s undesired antics during the summer transfer window, Farke will want the lively striker back as soon as possible.

In other Leeds United news, when the Whites defeated Millwall, one Sheffield United player sent Luke Ayling a three-word note.
