Former Yankees pitcher gets hired under new manager

Karsay played 11 seasons in the majors between 1993 and 2006, missing a couple seasons due to injury. He played for the Yankees in 2002 and 2004-5 (he missed 2003 with an injury), and compiled a 3.39 ERA with 12 saves as a closer in New York.

The Angels have hired Steve Karsay as bullpen coach, reports Sam Blum and Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Karsay, 51, served as Brewers bullpen coach for three years from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, he worked as a pitching coach in Cleveland’s minor league system.

In his role with the Angels, Karsay will work under Ron Washington in his first season as Angels manager and team with new Los Angeles pitching coach Barry Enright.

Washington, 71, got his coaching start in the Mets system from 1991 to 1995 as a coach for the Tides (1991-92, 1995) and a manager for Class-A Capital City (1993-94). After that, he coached in Oakland with the A’s before the Rangers hired him in 2007.
