Nottingham Forest still want Sunderland wonderkid
Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Sunderland youngster Tom Watson when the January transfer window opens. The Reds were keen to sign him recently but he penned a new deal with the Black Cats.
According to The Sun, Forest remain interested and are now awaiting the green light to move for him. The Reds valued Watson at £300,000 in the summer but given his new deal that will have now increased.
Watson is an England youth international. If the player had signed for Forest during the summer transfer window, it’s likely that he would have joined the development ranks.
The 17-year-old has made a name for himself at Sunderland, with both the under-18 ranks and the under-21s. He’s scored 13 times from the wing in 32 appearances for the under-18s and has also scored twice in a handful of games in the Premier League 2.
Now, he’s a wanted man. Sunderland handed him a new deal but that’s likely in an attempt to retain his valuation rather than have any real hopes of keeping him at the Stadium of Light.
Forest has a gleaming academy. As a result, he may view the move to a Premier League side as a step forward, and with Steve Cooper in charge, he may assume the path to the first team is clear.
Sunderland’s Watson is a target for Forest.
Several clubs are interested in the brilliant 17-year-old. He usually plays as a winger, but he has also played as a center-forward on occasion.
Watson will likely attract more interest from Forest in January. The Black Cats will now be in a solid position for negotiations, however, with the player signing a new deal.
Forest are currently an appealing proposition for possible new recruits. The club is on the rise in the Premier League and will be hoping for another big win tomorrow night.
Watson appears to be a player who will be on the radar for the time being. In the great scheme of things, he could turn out to be a steal, and it will be intriguing to watch if Forest does make their move.
