Gary O’Neil backs ‘extremely important’ £13m Wolves star to ’cause problems’ this season

Hee-Chan Hwang of the Wolves has failed to live up to the anticipation that surrounded his arrival in 2021.

Wolves exercised their £13 million option to acquire the South Korean international, who was initially on loan.

Despite his initial reluctance, Hwang has started this season on fire for Wolves, leaving fans at the club excited for more.

This includes boss Gary O’Neil, who has stated that Hwang has the confidence to be a dangerous player for Wolves this season.

We saw this in the first four Premier League games, with the 27-year-old scoring two goals despite the club’s troubles.

Hwang has only started one of the four games this season which only emphasises his impressive record.

O’Neil spoke to Express and Star, saying he believes there is more to come from the attacker.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more from him, because what he’s shown so far is that he has work rate and ability,” the head coach said.

“He has physical attributes to cause problems at this level, so he’ll be extremely important with the chances we’re creating as he’s a good finisher.

“He’s intelligent with his movement. I’m sure we’ll see a lot of him in a Wolves shirt this year and I’m looking forward to trying to improve him and his understanding, because I think there’s still more we can get out of him.”

“When I first got to work with the group I felt there were lots of areas we could improve. We have made inroads into quite a few but we need to be a little bit more threatening.”

Can his goalscoring form continue this weekend?

Wolves face a daunting task this weekend, as a Virgil van Djik-less Liverpool visit Molineux.

This doesn’t give Wolves a guarantee of points but with both the captain and vice-captain in Trent Alexander-Arnold missing, this is a huge chance for Old Gold.

O’Neil will be hoping to capitalise on the absences, particularly the suspension of Van Djik.

A win would be huge for Wolves, with Hwang likely to play a massive role in any success, but we are under no illusions that this will be a tricky game.
