Sources: Burnley ready to spend £25m on striker

Burnley want to add a prolific striker before the 1 September transfer deadline and are scouring Europe for potential targets, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (18 August) that Vincent Kompany is keen to add a prolific goalscorer to their ranks and money has been set aside to do a deal.

The Belgian believes signing a prolific new forward is key to his side’s Premier League survival – and the Clarets are therefore ready to splash out a fee of £20-25million on the right player.

That outlay would smash their current transfer record, which stands at the £16.1million paid to bring Basel striker Zeki Amdouni to Turf Moor earlier this summer.

The Clarets have already added no fewer than 11 new faces following their promotion back to the Premier League as champions, spending a reported £78million.

As well as Amdouni, a host of wingers have joined – including Wilson Odobert, Luca Koleosho, Nathan Redmond and Jacob Bruun Larsen.

Meanwhile, Wout Weghorst – who signed for Burnley in the Premier League last January – has departed for Hoffenheim on a season-long loan.

Last season’s top scorer, Nathan Tella, remains a Southampton player despite the Clarets’ efforts to sign him permanently.

Tella managed 19 goals across all competitions as Burnley were promoted back to the Premier League as champions.

Burnley lost their first game back in the top flight against treble-winning Man City – with Pep Guardiola’s side registering a comfortable 3-0 win last Friday (11 August).

The Clarets are next in action against Aston Villa on 27 August.
