Everton’s Andre Gomes attracting interest from Juventus?

Andre Gomes of Everton is apparently a transfer target for Italian powerhouse Juventus.
The Portuguese midfielder has yet to play competitively for Everton since returning from a loan spell with Lille last season.

Gomes was a fixture in Lille’s lineup last season, providing five goals in 26 Ligue 1 games.

Sean Dyche has chosen not to employ Gomes since two brief cameos in pre-season, but the club were unable to move the player late in the summer window.

According to CalcioMercato, Gomes is now of interest to Juventus, who see him as a low-cost solution to address their present midfield woes.

The imminent doping penalty for Paul Pogba and the ongoing investigation into Nicolo Fagioli’s gambling practices indicate that the Old Lady will be without the two midfielders for the foreseeable future.

Fagioli, in particular, has been a regular in Massimiliano Allegri’s starting lineup this season, frequently pairing Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot in the center of the field.

Pogba, who hasn’t played much since returning to Italy, is another option the manager won’t have, leaving the Bianconeri short on numbers in that area.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of the names mentioned in Turin as a prospective incomer to address that issue, but Tottenham Hotspur’s £25 million price tag is apparently putting Juve off.

Gomes would be available for less, but his reputed six-figure weekly pay has been a stumbling barrier in Everton’s attempts to unload the player.

However, the player’s contract at Goodison Park will expire in January, making it easier for the two parties to reach an agreement.

After impressing the Everton faithful during a loan spell in the 2018-19 season, Gomes was signed permanently on a big contract from Barcelona.

However, within months, Gomes’s season was virtually ended when he broke his leg against Spurs early in the campaign.

Gomes has never regained a regular spot in the Everton side and it appears he is not in the plans of Dyche either.

After being named as a substitute on the opening day against Fulham, Gomes has not been present in a single matchday squad since.
