ECU Coach Cliff Godwin gives a heartbreaking news….

Following another good season on the diamond, ECU head coach Cliff Godwin earned the second contract extension and raise of his time with the Pirates. Godwin, who just led the Pirates to a 44-18 season and the first NCAA regional hosted in Clark-LeClair Stadium since 2009, inked the deal earlier this summer.

Here’s the most notable items you need to know about the contract.

-Previously signed through 2022 during his extension in 2016, Godwin got another year tacked on and is now inked through June 30, 2023.

Along with his extra year, Godwin got a nice pay bump, seeing his base salary for 2018-19 increase from $280,000 to $375,000. The salary will rise by $10K each year and the pay structure is as follows

Godwin made sure to get his assistants a nice raise with the new deal as well. The salary pool for assistant coach Jeff Palumbo, pitching coach Dan Roszel and director of operations Pete Buscaino went up $35,000 for 2018-19, and is scheduled to increase $10,000 each year Godwin is in charge of the program going forward.

– As if turning his alma mater into a consistent postseason contender wasn’t motivation enough, Godwin will also get a handsome bonus every time he notches a significant goal as the head coach of the Pirates. These bonuses were also written into his last contract, and most major head coaches have performance bonuses, but the payment for each feat has been increased with the extension.

Winning the AAC regular season or tournament championship: $15,000

Participating in the NCAA regional: $10,000 (and an additional $10,000 for making a Super Regional)
