Don Waddell, the President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League, has announced a contract extension for Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour, along with several members of the coaching staff. The extension encompasses Assistant Coaches Jeff Daniels and Tim Gleason, Video Coach Chris Huffine, and Goaltending Coach Paul Schonfelder. Additionally, there will be an end-of-season press conference featuring Brind’Amour and Waddell at PNC Arena on Monday at 10 a.m.

Waddell expressed the team’s appreciation for Brind’Amour’s significant contributions over the past six seasons, highlighting his embodiment of the Hurricanes’ ethos since joining the organization 24 years ago. The aim is to maintain Brind’Amour’s tenure with the Hurricanes indefinitely.

Brind’Amour, aged 53, has achieved a record of 278-130-44 during his six seasons as the Hurricanes’ head coach, a period during which the team has ranked third in the NHL for wins and points (600). The Hurricanes’ impressive 52-23-7 record in the 2023-24 season marks their third consecutive 50-win season, a feat accomplished by only six teams in NHL history. Under Brind’Amour’s leadership, the Hurricanes have secured three division titles and consistently performed well in the playoffs, winning at least one postseason round each season.

Brind’Amour’s coaching prowess was recognized with the 2020-21 Jack Adams Award for NHL Coach of the Year, a season where the Hurricanes achieved their highest single-season points percentage (.714) in franchise history. His coaching tenure has seen Carolina enjoy its most successful regular seasons in terms of points percentage.

Before his coaching career, Brind’Amour had a distinguished playing career spanning over 20 NHL seasons, retiring in 2010. As a player, he achieved significant milestones and honors, including representing Canada in international competitions and winning the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006. He ranks prominently in Hurricanes franchise history in various statistical categories, both in terms of the team’s time in North Carolina and its broader history.

Brind’Amour’s impact on the Hurricanes extends beyond coaching, with his legacy deeply intertwined with the team’s identity and success on and off the ice.
