The Wolverines could be hitting the portal once again for offensive line help.

As Michigan prepares for its Rose Bowl matchup with Alabama, college coaches around the country are hot on the recruiting trail in search of both high school recruits and transfer portal targets. The latest recruit to be connected to Michigan comes courtesy of the portal in the form of Texas A&M offensive lineman Chase Bisontis.

After completing his freshman season this year, Bisontis opted to enter the transfer portal, along with many other Aggies following the departure of head coach Jimbo Fisher. Impressively, Bisontis started at right tackle for each of Texas A&M’s 12 regular season games as a true freshman.

It should come as no surprise with his performance this season that Bisontis is highly ranked in the top-10 of both On3 and 247Sports’s transfer portal player rankings.

It is also no surprise he is a hot commodity in the portal, and as of Saturday, has been in contact with Michigan and 25 other schools, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3. Major programs such as Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Notre Dame are among the schools to contact Bisontis so far.

Heading into the 2024 season, it makes sense Michigan would be after some help along the offensive line. Several starters — including LaDarius Hendersn, oZak Zinter and Trevor Keegan — are set to graduate, so the Wolverines could use some players up front who bring starting experience. Bisontis brings that to the table, not to mention his starts have come in the SEC against some of the nation’s best defenses.

Not only does Bisontis have experience in his back pocket, he might also be able to add some versatility, as he was recruited as an interior offensive lineman despite playing exclusively at right tackle in 2023.

As a high school recruit, Bisontis was ranked as a four-star and the No. 46 player in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He played his high school ball at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, and was also ranked as the state’s No. 1 player.
