The Miami Dolphins have signed one of their wide receivers to a substantial contract extension. The new deal is for three years and is worth $84.75 million, with a significant portion of the contract—$76 million—guaranteed. This contract extension reflects the player’s importance to the team and their commitment to securing top talent for the coming seasons.

The Miami Dolphins have secured their star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle with a significant contract extension. On Thursday, the team agreed to a three-year deal worth $84.75 million, including $76 million guaranteed, as confirmed by CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones. This extension gives Waddle an average annual value (AAV) of $28.25 million, making him the fourth-highest paid receiver in the NFL, just behind his teammate Tyreek Hill.

Waddle, who became eligible for an extension this offseason, has consistently delivered impressive performances. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three NFL seasons. In 2023, he recorded 72 receptions for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns. As the No. 6 overall pick out of Alabama, Waddle made a significant impact as a rookie by setting an NFL record with 104 receptions—a record recently broken by Los Angeles Rams rookie Puka Nacua, who had 105 receptions. In 2022, Waddle led the league with 18.1 yards per reception, achieving a career-high 1,356 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

This extension not only secures Waddle’s future with the Dolphins but also positions him among the top earners in the league. The wide receiver market has seen a considerable reset this offseason, with notable contracts such as Amon-Ra St. Brown’s four-year deal reportedly worth over $120 million and A.J. Brown’s three-year extension worth $96 million, pushing their AAVs to $30.002 million and $32 million, respectively.

With upcoming potential extensions for other young star receivers like CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Brandon Aiyuk, the Dolphins acted swiftly to lock in Waddle with a top-five receiver salary as soon as he was eligible. This proactive move aims to maintain stability and talent within their roster, potentially paving the way for their next significant extension, which could involve quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
