Breaking: Lions WR Marvin Jones Announces He Is Stepping Away From Team, Only To Find Out Later That He Is Released By The Lions

The Detroit Lions recently released veteran wide receiver Marvin Jones, who announced on social media that he’s taking a break from football to address a personal family issue. In his Instagram post, Jones explained that it was a difficult decision but felt he couldn’t fully commit to the team while also taking care of his family, who recently relocated from Miami to San Diego. Originally, he had plans to join an NFL team on the West Coast.

Jones, aged 33, returned to Detroit in April, attracted by the prospect of playing for a much-improved team. However, his performance this season was limited to just five catches for 35 yards in six games, and he didn’t travel with the team to their recent game in Baltimore, where the Lions suffered a heavy loss to the Ravens.

The Detroit Lions, who are currently leading the NFC North with a 5-2 record, are set to host the Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) on Monday night.

Marvin Jones has had a successful career, amassing 547 catches for 7,421 yards and 58 touchdowns, ranking him ninth among active players. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012 and first joined the Detroit Lions in 2016, where he had five productive seasons. Last season, he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, contributing 46 receptions for 529 yards and three touchdowns during the regular season, and an additional four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs.
