Dave Roberts announced the return of a key player who has been pivotal to the team’s success. This player’s comeback is expected to significantly bolster the Dodgers’ lineup as they head into a crucial stretch of the season.

Roberts emphasized the positive impact this player has had both on and off the field, highlighting their leadership and consistent performance. The team is optimistic that his return will provide the necessary boost to maintain their competitive edge and drive towards the playoffs.

Los Angeles Dodgers v Pittsburgh Pirates

Tyler Glasnow last pitched at PNC Park on July 26, 2018, against the New York Mets, throwing three scoreless innings in relief. Following his trade to Tampa Bay, a World Series appearance, Tommy John surgery, and another trade to his hometown Dodgers, Glasnow returned to PNC Park for the first time in nearly six years on Tuesday.

During his time with the Pirates, Glasnow struggled to secure a rotation spot and ended up as a bullpen option in his final Pittsburgh season. In 56 career games, he had a 3-11 record with a 5.79 ERA before being traded to Tampa Bay, where he became a top-tier starter when healthy.

Reflecting on the difference between his last game as a Pirate and his return to PNC Park, where he became the first pitcher this season to reach 100 strikeouts, Glasnow told Will Aldrich of MLB.com, “Back then, I was terrible every time. Now, I feel like I’m much better than I was. It’s definitely a stark contrast.”

Dave Roberts has commended young right-hander Gavin Stone for his recent performances, comparing him to former Dodger Cy Young winner and current commentator Orel Hershiser. “I’m not saying he’s Orel Hershiser,” Roberts noted, “but he has a bulldog mentality… It’s somewhat reminiscent of Hershiser.”

22-year-old rookie Paul Skenes, drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates last year, has quickly made an impact, posting a 2.45 ERA and 30 strikeouts in just four starts. His debut was the most anticipated since Stephen Strasburg’s in 2010. The Dodgers will face Skenes for the first time on Wednesday but aren’t overly influenced by the hype surrounding him, reports Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. “First overall pick and all that – he deserves the hype,” Freeman said. “He’s got a great arm, great stuff. It’s fun facing guys like that. I don’t buy into the hype. That’s just everyone else building him up. I’m sure he doesn’t like the hype.”

Amid the investigation involving Ippei Mizuhara and Shohei Ohtani, five professional baseball players have been suspended for betting on baseball. Notably, Tucupita Marcano of the San Diego Padres received a lifetime ban for betting on his own team while he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season.
