Georgia football has reportedly contacted a WR in the transfer portal…

It’s never too early to talk about the transfer portal, right? The portal can be one of the most fun t things to discuss when Georgia is going after targets, but on the flip side it’s the absolute worst when Georgia players are entering it.

Thankfully this time around the news that’s come out is that Georgia is after a wide receiver in the transfer portal.

According to Pete Nakos of On3, Georgia has contacted UMass wide receiver Anthony Simpson in the transfer portal.

Simpson began his career at Arizona where he spent two seasons. While with the Wildcats, Simpson recorded eight catches for 102 yards. After his sophomore season he entered the transfer portal for the first time and made the move east all the way to Massachusetts.

It was during his first season with UMass, and third overall season in college, where Simpson really burst onto the scene. Last year Simpson recorded an impressive 57 receptions for 792 yards and three touchdowns.

After his breakout season last year, Simpson initially decided to stay with UMass heading into this year. But through their first two games, Simpson recorded just three receptions for 16 yards. It was at this point that he decided to forego the rest of this season and enter the transfer portal once again.

Georgia is one of three schools who have reportedly made contact with Simpson so far. Syracuse and Michigan State have also contacted Simpson as well, but I imagine more will as the season progresses and comes to an end.

It’s yet to be seen how interested Kirby Smart and his staff are in Simpson, so we’ll have to wait and see if communication continues throughout the regular season and into the offseason or not. But at the very least, Smart is laying the groundwork for what could be a solid portal acquisition later this offseason.
