The NFL is home to a number of young, promising teams. Nonetheless, one well-known competitor was included in Pro Football Focus’s list of the “five teams that are best set up for the future.”
Cincinnati was ranked by PFF as the fifth-best club positioned for success going forward, after the rebuilding Colts, Titans, Commanders, and Texans.
It demonstrates the Bengals’ dangerousness following a poor season that saw quarterback Joe Burrow suffer a season-ending injury. However, the group appears to be more prepared than ever for 2024 victory.
“While the Bengals have quarterback Joe Burrow on a long-term contract extension, his $29.7 million cap number in 2024 doesn’t prohibit them from being aggressive this offseason,” PFF’s Gordon McGuinness stated.
Cincinnati’s cap space is estimated by PFF to be $59.43 million. After making Burrow the highest paid quarterback in NFL history during the previous offseason, it is an excellent amount.
But in the upcoming days, weeks, and months, the team will have to make a number of challenging choices. DT D.J. Reader, CB Chidobe Awuzie, and wide outs Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are among the Bengals’ 20 unrestricted free agents.
Cincinnati should be able to keep at least a few of its star free agents with its available cap space. However, they’re not the only participants trying to get paid this offseason.
Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, a three-time Pro Bowler, is eligible for and probably will earn a contract extension after proving he is among the league’s top wide outs.
That might make any free agent acquisitions the organisation makes more difficult, according to McGuinness.
“They do, however, have a contract extension for wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase on the horizon,” McGuinness stated. “So any free agency swings may need to be short-term moves.”
It’s obvious that the Bengals are positioned for success in 2024 and beyond. However, finances will be significantly tighter following the next season. In order to avoid future difficulties, they must take advantage of this and aim for the franchise’s first Super Bowl again the following year.
