Nico Elvedi: 5 Things to Know About the Swiss Star Being Tracked by Manchester City - Sports IllustratedWolves fans are hoping to see one or two new faces walk through the door at Molineux in the coming days.

Gary O’Neil has started with two defeats in the Premier League, and already it is shaping up to be a difficult season.

Wolves’ actual starting XI is fairly strong.

But there is a lack of depth at the moment, which has come about because of Wolves’ need to sell players.

The likes of Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez, Nathan Collins were all sold earlier in the window.

And Diego Costa, Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho all left as free agents.

Wolves fans have everything crossed for a new player or two to arrive – and one man there is still a chance to get is Nico Elvedi.

Wolves target Nico Elvedi left out for protection purposes by Gladbach at the weekend

Wolves are known to be keen on signing Switzerland defender Elvedi.

But the issue has been that Wolves just haven’t been able to scrape the money together so far.

It’s thought Gladbach are seeking around £10 million to sell.

Seemingly though Elvedi is very much there for the taking.

On Saturday, Gladbach posted a graphic of their starting XI for the club’s Bundesliga match against Augsburg.

They then provided some information about Elvedi, who was not in the squad.

The club said he was omitted ‘in order not to endanger a possible transfer of the Swiss through an injury’.

An unusual admission that indicates Gladbach want Elvedi sold

It is very unusual to see a club state publicly that a player has been left out to avoid picking up a potential injury ahead of leaving through a possible transfer.

Clearly, Gladbach are very open at this point to getting Elvedi out the door.

It was reported earlier this summer that the 26-year-old was not going to sign a new contract at the club.

It was also reported that Wolves had been in talks with Gladbach.

Given he only has one year left on his contract, Gladbach clearly want to sell him now, rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

The player is there for the taking.

It is seemingly now just about whether Wolves can pay what Gladbach are asking.

A move is obviously also dependent on Elvedi wanting to come to Molineux.
