Chris Sutton has advised Celtic fans to manage their expectations regarding a potential permanent signing of Adam Idah. On January 2, 2024, during a match between St Mirren and Celtic at St Mirren Park in Paisley, Scotland, the former Celtic player smiled for the TV cameras. Sutton noted that Idah’s impressive performances for both Celtic and the Republic of Ireland might have made him financially unattainable for Celtic.

Throughout his loan spell with Celtic, which began in January, Idah was instrumental in securing the league title and played a crucial role in winning the Scottish Cup, scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute against Rangers.

Brendan Rodgers praised Idah as a key contributor to the team’s success this season and expressed interest in signing him permanently. However, in an article for the Daily Record, Sutton suggested that Idah’s recent goal for Ireland in a friendly against Hungary has further increased his market value.

“Adam Idah certainly fits the bill, but his stock has risen since his loan move, and his powerful header for the Republic of Ireland in their friendly win against Hungary recently didn’t help matters either. New Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup wants to assess him in pre-season, and even if he doesn’t favor the striker, he won’t let him go cheaply, regardless of Idah’s desire to return to Celtic.”

The absence of a purchase option in Idah’s loan deal indicates that the club viewed him as a short-term solution and likely had another plan for the summer.
