BREAKING: Ohio State Buckeyes Lose Another Starter To The Transfer Portal

The Ohio State Buckeyes have not had a good transfer portal season. Droves of players have been leaving Columbus which has been very concerning to fans. While their National Signing Day looked to be a turning point, the embarrassing bowl loss to Missouri triggered another exodus of players. Starting punter Jesse Mirco is the latest player to enter the transfer portal.

Ohio State starting punter Jesse Mirco has entered the transfer portal, @On3sports has learned.

In 129 punts over three seasons for the Buckeyes, he’s averaged 44.0 yards per punt.

Mirco has been with the program for three years and has been a very solid special teams player. He has 130 punts for 5,707 yards, averaging 43.9 yards per punt. He has been essential in keeping opponents pinned in their own territory even when the offense stalls. It is yet another position where head coach Ryan Day is going to have to figure out what to do in 2024.

Cause For Concern?

While it isn’t uncommon for teams to lose players into the transfer portal, the Buckeyes have seen more than other programs. Ohio State ranks near the top of ranked teams in terms of players lost. It will likely put even more pressure on Day and his staff to perform well. While the team has been able to beat the bottom feeders of the Big Ten, they have not seen success against the top programs. Eventually, the athletic director may decide to make a change.

Can Ohio State finish on top of the Big Ten in 2024? They will need to figure out some key positions but still have some time to fill those gaps before games start in the fall.
