Victor Orta, the director of football of Sevilla, has commended midfielder Boubakary Soumare for the financial sacrifices he has made to facilitate his summer transfer from Leicester City.

Orta spoke at a news conference this afternoon, which Marca covered, and introduced Soumare and another late summer addition, Mariano Diaz.

The former had been linked with Sevilla during the summer transfer window, as he looked to become one of numerous Leicester players to depart the club after their relegation to the Championship.

A transaction appeared to be simple, but it took until the end of the window to be completed because Sevilla’s shortage of liquidity, and hence the need to send players on, prevented them from bringing in fresh faces.
They were eventually able to accomplish both of these goals, as Soumare signed on loan from Leicester until the conclusion of the season.

That contract was completed as a last-minute, deadline-day agreement amongst the parties involved, who all made sacrifices to ensure it went through as intended.

Soumare’s participation to that endeavor appears to have been critical, at least according to Orta, who is quick to laud the midfielder.

“Personally, I want to thank him for the genuine, numerical, and financial effort he has made, which is reflected in the number of people who want to wear this shirt,” he stated.

“We contacted him a long time ago, but we couldn’t register him until we were able to release economic control, and he waited for us until the last day.”

“Giant teams, giants, Italian champions playing in the Champions League called him, logically, with a French coach, but he wanted to wait for us, so I want to thank him.”
