Diego Carlos: Aston Villa reach agreement to sign Sevilla defender | Transfer Centre News | Sky SportsWe’re thrilled to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist; each week, he’ll share his thoughts on the club’s most pressing issues…

According to, Diego Carlos’ injury during Aston Villa’s trip to Liverpool is not cause for alarm following his long-term absence

Carlos had to leave the field in the 19th minute on Sunday (3 September) at Anfield due to an injury, but Unai Emery was eager to point out that his new injury is not as bad as the Achilles tendon tear that took him out of the Villa squad for 213 days. [Transfermarkt

Carlos’ absence will be a huge setback if he is out beyond the international break, since Villa have looked fairly vulnerable defensively when playing the Premier League’s top opposition, conceding five goals to Newcastle and three to Liverpool in their first four games.

The club have faced plenty of injury setbacks this season, with Tyrone Mings out for potentially the whole season along with midfielder Emi Buendia. Despite his worrying injury history, Ty Bracey has mooted concerns about Carlos’ fitness, claiming this latest knock has not “disheartened” him as he should be back much sooner than before.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think it’s just a little niggle to be fair. I don’t think it’s anything serious like his last injury.

“Emery said it was a minor muscle injury, so it wasn’t anything serious.” It’s fine as long as we recover from it. I’m not discouraged or worried about it.”
