Wrexham don’t back down after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney miss out on transfer

The Red Dragons were left upset after a last-minute deal for a potential Paul Mullin replacement fell through, and the club is now assessing its alternatives.

Wrexham are considering filing an EFL appeal after their record transfer deadline day deal for Luke Armstrong fell through.

The Red Dragons are gathering information regarding the circumstances behind the failed Harrogate Town transfer. The EFL refused to allow the move to be finalized because they considered the appropriate paperwork had not been filed by the required time.

When the proposed transfer could not be completed by the 11 p.m. deadline, the League Two club was left in uncertainty. Despite Harrogate’s announcement that Armstrong would be joining Wrexham, the Dragons’ registration was denied.

The player would have effectively served as a replacement for talisman Paul Mullin, who has missed the start of the current season due to injury.

They have now requested information from the EFL regarding the decision to reject the registration of the 27-year-old. The North Wales outfit previously thanked the forward for choosing to move to the Racecourse Ground and expressed their “disappointment” at the EFL’s decision.

Head coach Phil Parkinson has also aired his frustrations that the deal for the free-scoring striker fell through. He said: “A lot of work has gone in to identify Luke and to get him to the club but for whatever reason that didn’t get over the line and we’re disappointed.

“A lot of work had gone into that signing in terms of looking at players across the board, putting offers in and working really hard to get a deal that was really suitable for Harrogate and us.”

Wrexham issued an official statement expressing their dissatisfaction with the transfer’s demise following the rejection of the forward’s registration. In an update on the status of their investigation into a prospective appeal, they confirmed that they had been in contact with the EFL.

“Further to Saturday’s statement on the rejection of Luke Armstrong’s transfer registration, Wrexham AFC can confirm the Club is still actively collating all relevant information in preparation for a potential appeal against the decision,” they stated.

“We requested key information from the EFL late this afternoon, and we have been told that we will receive it tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.” “Another update will be provided in due course, after which no further comment will be made.”

On transfer deadline day, the National League champions added Arsenal’s Arthur Okonkwo on loan. They have signed experienced Millwall midfielder George Evans on a two-year contract.

The world-famous club has had a shaky start to the season, sitting 13th in League Two after six games. They lost 5-3 to MK Dons on the opening day, but a 1-0 away win over Tranmere will boost their morale.
