Wolves are in for a new striker this month – but a proposed move for Danny Ings could now be in danger of falling through.
It has been suggested in recent days that Ings is a player Wanderers are interested in bringing in on loan, with Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva both completing loan moves away.
Ings has not featured much for West Ham this season, and has seemingly been identified as a realistic target by Molineux officials.
However, there has been a development which may now make it very tricky for Wolves to land the 31-year-old…
Ings has not been able to feature much so far this season – but it’s possible he actually could now start getting more minutes from David Moyes.
That’s because two players at West Ham are struggling with injuries.
According to the Evening Standard, Michail Antonio, who had only just returned to training after a knee injury, has suffered another injury in training and is apparently now facing another four weeks out at least.
West Ham are also sweating on Jarrod Bowen, who has played as a striker this season. He picked up an injury in their FA Cup game against Bristol City.
Given Mohammed Kudus has already flown out for AFCON with Ghana, the Hammers are now lacking attacking options, and so this may hinder Wolves in any move for Ings.
A move was seemingly already going to be difficult, with Ings on huge wages of £125,000 per week.
This is an interesting development – and one that a lot of Wolves fans will actually now hope prompts the club to look elsewhere.
Ings has not scored a goal this season and that is not particularly encouraging.
Granted, he’s not had a great show of faith from Moyes, who’s handed him just 133 minutes in the Premier League and 176 minutes in the Europa League.
But it just feels like Wolves ought to be aiming a bit higher, and going for someone in better form – not someone who’s scored fewer goals than both Kalajdzic and Silva.
Perhaps a move for Hugo Ekitike on loan could be a better move. He’s barely played this term, but has major potential and is someone who’ll be hungry to prove himself.
