Leeds player ‘would have loved’ to join German club in ‘dream’ £17m move, agreed terms

Willy Gnonto would have “loved” to have joined Bundesliga side Freiburg in the summer, according to Bild, and had even agreed on personal conditions. However, Leeds have priced Gnonto out of a move.

Gnonto, 19, stayed at Leeds in the summer despite refusing to participate in three games and attracting interest from Everton, other Premier League clubs, Serie A clubs, and Freiburg.

With Gnonto returning to the fold and the deadline passing, no clubs were able to meet our asking price in what was a bit of a drawn-out chess battle. Luis Sinisterra left.

Following the retention of the Italy wonderkid, BILD reports that Freiburg were intrigued, and the player would have delighted to play for the Germans. He even agreed on personal terms for a prospective relocation.

According to the article, Freiburg saw Gnonto as a dream signing. However, Leeds demanded far more than Freiburg was willing to give – barely £17 million. Finally, something that was never going to happen this summer.

Willy Gnonto wanted to join Freiburg from Leeds United.
To be truthful, Gnonto would have been better off in Freiburg. An aspirant with a belief in youth. Gnonto would have easily started for the Germans, who are now in the Europa League.

So Gnonto would have been playing top-tier football for a club that is also in the European group stage, starting every week. Instead, he is in Leeds and will be there until at least January.
