A return to Rangers in January next year is not on Alex Lowry’s radar as things stand.
The Ibrox club is poised to name a new manager in the coming days as they seek a permanent replacement for Michael Beale.
Beale was the one who approved Lowry’s loan move to Hearts near the close of the summer transfer window.
While the offensive midfielder is keeping an eye on his home club’s management predicament, he claims his sole emphasis is on having the biggest possible effect at Tynecastle while also securing a starting spot for Scotland’s under-21s.v
The 20-year-old was brilliant in the 2-2 Edinburgh derby against Hibernian on Saturday. He scored the second goal for the hosts before being replaced.
It added to his tally after he scored the game-winning goal at Rugby Park to propel Hearts into the Viaplay Cup semi-finals.
Lowry’s strong performances have left Rangers fans wondering why he’s playing for Hearts rather than their team, with some pointing to his recall clause at the halfway point of the season.
However, the gifted youngster believes that returning to Auchenhowie at the time hasn’t registered.
“It’s not in my mind,” he told the media, “my main goal right now is to perform for Hearts.” Whatever happens in January is permanent. I have no idea who the next manager will be, thus it has nothing to do with me.
“My focus is on impressing Steven Naismith and if he’s playing me then I’ll hopefully keep getting picked for the 21s. That’s all I can control, my own form, so I just have to do my best and see what happens.”
“It’s a big season for me,” he added. This has been my primary breakout season since, despite making my debut two seasons ago, I was continually injured last season and a few other things happened.
“This season, I’ve started from scratch, and I’m hoping to really get going.” Going to Hearts has given me something entirely new.
“I’d been in Rangers’ enclosed walls before, so I knew what it was like to be under pressure.” But it’s been a matter of ‘wow’ when it comes to Hearts since it’s also so tense there. So far, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
