Borussia Dortmund just made a late move to sign £115,000-a-week Chelsea player, he’s not interested
Borussia Dortmund have just made a late move to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea – but he prefers Roma.
That is according to Corriere dello Sport.
So, what are the details regarding Borussia Dortmund and Romelu Lukaku? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Belgian received interest from Juventus and Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, but a move to either destination failed to materialise.
Roma now look set to sign Lukaku on loan for the 2023/24 campaign – but that didn’t stop Borussia Dortmund making a late enquiry about his situation.
Corriere dello Sport believe the German giants asked Chelsea about taking the 30-year-old on loan, but he has already chosen to join Jose Mourinho in Rome.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Roma will pay Chelsea a €4.8m (£4m) loan fee for Lukaku.
Interestingly, the Belgium international appears to have also taken a pay cut, as he will now earn €7m-a-year (£6m) according to the Belgian journalist, which equates to roughly £115,000-a-week.
The Evening Standard believe Lukaku was earning £17m-a-year on his £325,000-a-week.
Lukaku should have left Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund
In our view, Lukaku should have chosen Borussia Dortmund over Roma.
Italian football fans seem to hold a strong dislike of Lukaku, with Juventus fans in particular even creating banners demanding he was not signed, while also invading the pitch to make their anger known.
Lukaku has never played in Germany, and strikers at Borussia Dortmund always seem to have fun as chances are created left, right and centre – in that respect, we feel like a move to the Signal Iduna Park would have been a wise move.
Nevertheless, Lukaku has seemingly made his decision, and an official announcement should be made soon.
