Borussia Dortmund’s Mateu Morey sidelined with training injury

Mateu Morey of Borussia Dortmund is scheduled to miss another training session due to an injury, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.

Borussia Dortmund’s injury list is poised to rise by one as they prepare for their match against SC Freiburg next weekend. According to RN, Spanish right-back Mateu Morey has suffered yet another injury, this time during team training, which could keep him out for a few weeks.

The news of Morey’s injury is devastating for both the player and the organization. Morey has been unable to play for BVB over the last two years owing to recurring injuries. He had lately been cleared to make his comeback, which will now have to be postponed once more.

Morey’s injury is yet another setback for Borussia Dortmund in the full-back position. The club did little to try to reinforce the position on either wing during the summer transfer window, and Morey’s injury leaves them much more exposed in this area.

The recent sale of Thorgan Hazard, whom Terzi had expected to deploy as a depth option, has complicated matters further.

Borussia Dortmund will have Ramy Bensebaini, Julian Ryerson, and Marius Wolf to select from for the left and right back positions, with Niklas Süle able to come in at right back if necessary.

The rate at which Borussia Dortmund has managed to accumulate such a big list of injuries is amazing, to say the least, and raises further worries about the likely causes of these recurrences.

While Mateu Morey was unlikely to start the game, given the club’s current condition, any personnel loss may be highly costly in the long run, especially if the injury is significant. The expectation is that the injury will keep the Spaniard off the field for a short period of time, but further scares will only serve to validate the notion that Dortmund did far too little to get good, quality depth in a much-needed position on the field.
